First Canadian Woman To Win Olympic Gold At Home

Maelle Ricker won the Olympic Women's Snowboard Cross on Tuesday at Cypress Mountain during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, taking first place and securing her spot as Canada's first woman to take gold on Canadian soil.

Ricker joins Alexandre Bilodeau as the first Canadian woman to take gold as a host nation.

Hailing from West Vancouver, Ricker made it to the finals in the 2006 Turin Olympic Games but wiped out and finished fourth.

Despite the criticism Cypress Mountain has received, from lack of snow to canceled tickets due to unsafe conditions, the course has so far treated Canadian athletes kindly with four medal wins.
