Day 4 Highlighted Film - The Mountain Runners
The Mountain Runners is one of 20 films that will be screened during day 4 of the Whistler Film Festival. This fascinating documentary hit's home as it follows the first mountain adventure race to be held in North America. Check out a quick synopsis for the film below.
The Mountain Runners is a documentary following the events that transpired during the first North American mountain adventure race. Living in Whistler we are accustomed to watching Warrior Dash, 5 Peaks Running Race or next year's planned Iron Man Canada rolling through town. This lovely film recalls the first time one of these outdoor adventure races was held the next State over in Bellingham Washington in 1911. This 30 mile race was run to promote tourism in the then small town of Bellingham with a bag of gold going to the winner. Participants of this race were not that of professionally trained runners or athletes but instead comprised of mostly local lumberjacks and adventurers. This compelling and suspenseful documentary relives the drama that unfolded during the race including the unexpected winner who claimed the prize. The Mountain Runners is set to air a 2PM at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre.
