Whistler Summer Concert Series
The Whistler Summer Concert Series is a series of FREE concerts the Village of Whistler puts on every summer. Big name acts from Canada and around the world play to packed crowds at Whistler's Olympic Plaza. This is the last weekend of the concert series and features five artists over three days this weekend. Check out below to see who's playing, what time and a quick bio on each artist.
Friday, August 31, 8:30 - 10 PM | Vince Vaccaro Band & Blackie and the Rodeo Kings
Montreal's own Vince Vaccaro will be taking the stage to kick festivities off on Friday night. Fresh off the success of his major hit 'Costa Rica' he looks to win the crowd over with his laid back music and vibe. It's hard to believe the Montreal'er was born back east as his music screams west coast surf vibes and lifestyle. A style he attributes to spending his recent year's in Vancouver and constant trips down south. Check out Vince and his laid back vibe starting at 8:30PM this Friday night.
Veteran's of the Canadian music scene Blackie and the Rodeo hit the stage around 9:15PM. With a career that covers 20 years together as a group these rockers know a thing or two about touring and the music biz. If you had to ask the boys to define their sound they would say they are primarily a rock group but these fellas dabble in everything from jazz to country to folk and on and on. Expect a masterfull performance this Friday night from these grizzled vets.
Saturday, September 1, 8:30 - 10 PM | The Boom Booms & Kytami at Whistler Olympic Plaza
Vancouver boy's The Boom Booms start things off Saturday night at 8:30PM. This six piece band specializes in rock-pop music. With a sound that is sure to please the masses these boy's have had several of their songs featured on American and Canadian television programs. There easy going sound and family friendly music is sure to appeal to every type of musical fan.
Extreme violinist Kytami looks to thrill the crowd with her unique sound following the Booms. Trained in classical violin Kytami has taken her traditional craft and added a more modern sound to it. She know experiments with electric violin and the fiddle. Often backed by a DJ she likes to match her sound up with heavy hitting beats and sounds. Expect a performance the likes you rarely see as this violinist has molded her craft with new wave sounds.
Sunday, September 2, 8:30 - 9:45 PM | Emmanuel Jal at Whistler Olympic Plaza
Emmanuel Jal's story is one of courage and strength. Born in the war torn country of Sudan he was forced by one of the local regimes to act as a child solider. After falling in love with rap he found a way to spread his message of peace and non-violence through his music. He now travels around the world as an advocate for the end of the use of children of war. Join us this Sunday night as he shares his message and story through his hooks and rhymes.
