The "Arts" in Whistler
More to Whistler Than Just Great Recreation!
While it's hard to argue that Whistler's recreation and outdoor activities are at the heart of the resort there IS more to Whistler than just skiing, snowboarding and the like. Whistler also has a thriving arts and culture scene.
The Whistler Arts Council
The Whistler Arts Council's mandate is to build and integrate arts into the fabric of the Whistler community. Established in 1982, Whistler Arts Council (WAC) believes that the arts are integral to a healthy community and the culture of a community.
The Whistler Arts Council advocates for the arts, local artists and the local community; provides the community access to the arts and vice versa; provides resources and information to the community, outside organizations and local artists by acting as a referral service, co-programmer and information network.
ArtWalk: An Annual Event
The Whistler Arts Council also is the driving force behind ArtWalk, a two month walking tour that brings local art to high-traffic venues. ArtWalk features regional artists and artisans in host venues throughout Whistler Village, Upper Village, Creekside and Function Junction, including cafés, retail outlets, hotels and restaurants.
Movie Nights at Millennium Place
Movies are shown in Millennium Place's state-of-the-art theatre with a 250 person capacity. Get off your couch and come see those movies you missed on the big screen.
A cash bar is usually open with snacks and popcorn available. Tickets available at door.
The Scotia Creek Gallery is located on the upper level of Millennium Place in Whistler Village. The Gallery is open to the public Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 11am to 4pm and on Sundays from 4pm- 7pm. General admission is FREE.
Each month, the Whistler Arts Council brings a new exhibition.
