Take a Skate
No Canadian winter is complete until you get out for a skate. Thanks to the recent cold snap Whistler's surrounding lakes have all frozen making for some wonderful outdoor skating. Check out all 3 ways you can enjoy one of our favorite past times below.
Whistler is surrounded by a number of lakes including Green Lake, Alta Lake, Lost Lake and many more. Thanks to the recent cold spell Whistler has gotten all of the lakes have frozen over making way for hockey and ice skating. Right now you can find cleared off spots all over the Whistler lakes fit for skating. Nothing completes a Canadian winter quite like a skate outdoors in Whistler.
Whistler Olympic Plaza
During the winter months Whistler's Olympic Plaza field is turned into an outdoor ice rink. This is a great place to take the family for a winter skate in the village. Located right beside Whistler's Olympic Rings this ultra convenient location is only minutes away from the Aava Whistler Hotel. The rink is FREE to the public and is open 7 days a week, Sunday to Thursday 11AM to 4PM and 6PM to 9PM and Friday to Saturday 11AM to 4PM and 6PM to 10PM. The Plaza also provides skate rentals for $5. It is important to note that this is only a skating rink, hockey is not permitted at the Plaza Ice Rink.
Meadow Park Sports Centre
The Meadow Park Sports Centre is an all purpose sports facility located on the north side of Whistler. Open 7 days a week the sports centre houses an indoor ice rink, pool, gym and squash courts. Public skating sessions are held daily at the facility from 12PM to 3PM with additional night sessions on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday from 6:30PM to 8PM. Public Skating rates are $8 for an adult (19+), $5 for a youth (13-18) and $4.25 or a child (12 & Under).
If you've got your gear you can also play drop in hockey on Thursday from 8:15AM - 9:45AM and Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 8:15AM - 11:30AM. Drop-in hockey requires full equipment. Rates for drop-in hockey are $9.75 for an adult (19+), $5.75 for a youth (13-18).
