Whistler Blackcomb Lift Updates

As Christmas is approaching, we are getting more and more people coming to Whistler to get their dose of powder. The first few weeks of the 2013/2014 season have been outstanding. While thousands are enjoying the snow, there are plenty of people working hard to improve the facilities on Whistler-Blackcomb Mountain to enhance your experience.

Crystal Ridge Express

On December 7th, the new lift Crystal Ridge Express was opened on Blackcomb Mountain. The occasion was appropriately celebrated with the McQuaid Brothers playing some live tunes while many took a break with plenty of Kit Kats and more being given away.

The new Crystal Ridge Express is far superior to the lift it has replaced. The capacity has increased from 1450 skiers/hours to 2400 skiers/hour (fewer cues!), an additional 646m has been added in length bringing it to 1708m total and the new vertical rise is 535m (previously 377m).

Harmony 6 Express

The Harmony 6 Express was officially opened on December 14th. The excitement around this opening was the news that it would be Whistler's first six-pack chairlift. On opening day, more free snacks were given away while DJ Foxy Moron played some tunes to get everyone excited.

Replacing the ever popular Harmony Chair lift, the length of the lift has remained the same. However, that the increased lift capacity from 2400 to 3600 skiers/hour is exciting for all the regulars on the route.

Low Down on the Lifts

The two new lifts come at a cost of $18,000,000. The construction of the lifts began early 2013 and was on schedule the entire time. The biggest visual difference could well be the 39 towers that were placed on the Mountain to assist the 237 chairs. Travelling up to 5.08 meters/second the ride to the top of each lift can be completed in a very impressive six seconds.
