WAC Artist Workshops

Alta Lake Banner

WAC On the LakeEvery year the Whistler Arts Council hosts a series of art workshops from May to August. These workshops are held at different locations around Whistler including the Lake House at Alta Lake, The Pointe at Alta Lake and Whistler Millennium Place. These intimate workshops offer instruction on painting, basket weaving, photography, and drawing.

What makes these workshops so special is the idyllic location in which they are held (Alta Lake & Millennium Place) and the intimate setting of each class. Each workshop is limited to 10 - 12 people providing extensive hands-on interaction with each instructor, allowing for plenty of questions and feedback.

Some of the artists featured in this year's block of courses include: acclaimed basket weaver Joan Carrigan, international painter Nurieh Mozaffari, author and artist Heather Spears from Copenhagen, and mixed media artist Lisa Geddes. Returning to show the beauty of working with different mediums and light is Suzanne Northcott. Lori Goldberg will guide beginner painters through the dizzying world of acrylics, and Gaye Adams puts a spin on a classic with ‘Speed Painting With A Live Model’. Also in the mix is expert painter and drawing instructor Grant Fuller, renowned local photographer Jeffrey Boyce, who will be based out of Millennium Place, and weaver Cheryl Massey, whose class will be at The Pointe.

Most of the classes range from 1 - 3 days cost anywhere from $99 to $300. As previously mentioned the classes are offered beginning in the first week of May and end on the last week of August.

All of the photography courses will be held at Whistler Millennium Place and throughout Whistler Village. Students will have the chance to leave the class room and explore Whistler to capture action shots.

Every other course including basket weaving, painting and drawing will be held at the Alta Lake locations. These locations include the Alta Lake Station House - a small A frame cabin situated right on the lake or The Pointe - a lookout point overseeing the whole lake.

For more information on each course including instructor bio's and course costs head on over to the Whistler Arts Council website. Registration for the courses opens up at 9AM on Thursday, March 14. Don't hesitate to register right away as these courses tend to book up quick.
