Go Festival Countdown Begins

Get Ready & GO (Festival) this Summer

Great Outdoors Festival Large Banner

The GO festival is happening from May 16 to 19th this year -- over Victoria long weekend. The four days are going to be packed with sports and music, making us want to scream out to all of you: "Come out and play!"

Whistler is going to transform into a fun and playful recreation centre, a little bit different from the regular fare. The idea is to get you all outdoors doing activities together that you may have only watched before. From fun and silly to competitive and challenging, there's something for everyone. Activities are set for the entire four day spread to help us all celebrate outdoor recreation.

As organizers have been saying, "The challenge starts with deciding what to do first."

Enduro, Alpenglow and the Great Race

On Friday, May 18th organizers are offering the GO Enduro. This is a mountain bike race which will feature three downhill parts to the race in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. There will also be two stages of uphill sections. The race will test your endurance and bike handling skills. This one sounds like a fun but challenging race.

The next day, Saturday, the GO Festival offers a lighter style race: The Alpen Glow Fun Run. Both runners and walkers will enjoy this race, which encourages everyone to participate -- strollers, kids, pets -- anyone and everyone is welcome.

The Great Snow-Earth-Water Race is making a come back this year. In the past iterations of the GO Festival, this race was always a popular multisport team based relay race and the fact that organizers are bringing it back means we are all very much looking forward to trying this race out again...for most of us, for the first time. There will be ski or snowboard touring, downhill skiing or boarding, downhill mountain biking, then running, canoeing, and finally, cross country biking.

More Fun for Everyone

Besides the above three race events, much more is planned for the GO Festival, including the GO Fish Free, which offers demos and an instructional session for those who wish to learn more about fishing.

On Saturday, The Great Green River Challenge will run the Green River and compete through several challenges including a flat water slalom sprint, Sumo wrestling atop a raft, a raft flip, mass start river race and river time trials.

Another twist on regular Whistler fare is the DiscGO Disc Golf Tournament. At the GO Festival, organizers won't offer simple golf for festival goers. This weekend, the Whistler Disc Golf Course will play host to DiscGO, which will be a two-round disc golf tournament.

Tournaments, Slush Cups and Yoga

The GO Festival will also offer a Whistler 5 on 5 Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. This will be the second annual event, and organizers have decided to join in with the GO Festival to double or even triple the fun and excitement in the tournament. This will take place over at the Myrtle Phillips School on both Saturday and Sunday.

And, of course, it wouldn't be spring without at slush cup: The Great Slush Cup. The Slush Cup will encourage great dressing, style and skill while attempting to clear the slush pit at Glacier Creek Lodge. For anyone skiing that day, this event will be free - so plan to "make a splash" and join in!

Finally, GO Yoga Jam will help us wind down a bit. This will be held at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre in Whistler. This established and fun community event is raising funds for Africa Yoga Project while elevating spirit, connection and contribution in our own community.

We hope you'll join us on Victoria long weekend for this incredible Whistler festival -- The GO Festival.
