Mountain Bike Activities Summer 2014
WORCA Leads the Way
No harm in that.WWhistler Off Road Cycling Association keeps residents and visitors on their bikes for the entire season. Three nights a week events are offered that encourage us to get out, get on our bikes and shred a little.
Monday evenings are fun and social rides for all abilities. This year the Monday night rides begin on May 26th and continue all season long. At the beginning of the evening, participants are divided into groups according to ability, and then guides lead these groups, instructing when necessary. Afterwards, Los Sombreros hosts a social with participants getting a free beer plus great food specials after the ride. If you'd like to partake, sign in starts at 6:00 and rides leave at 6:30 sharp.
If you're in Whistler for the weekend, how hard is it, really, to stay one extra day? Take a little time for yourself, improve your riding, and have some fun. You deserve it!
If you have the good fortune to be in Whistler on a Tuesday, WORCA hosts Tuesday Trail Days/Nights where WORCA members can get out and give back a little and help build the trails we ride. Just a little PSA for ya — Take a moment if you're around to put in some time building the trails you love to ride.
Phat Wednesdays start May 28th and run most Wednesdays for the season. Certain Wednesdays are blocked off this year for youth races; you can check the events calendar to see which Wednesdays are youth and which are adult races. For a five dollar entry fee, you can test your skillz and have some fun. There are great prizes, and perhaps best of all, an awesome after-race social at GLC.
Ever Thursday for 20 weeks, WORCA hosts a toonie Thursday race. For $2, you can enter, and one dollar will go to WORCA and trail building, the other dollar goes in a pot to be shared by the winners. Certainly, if you are in Whistler on a Thursday evening, we encourage you to enter the race, but be forewarned: The winners are usually locals who are training for the World Cup or similar. Most of us are just out for a good time, to get a little exercise and have fun with friends.
Whether or not you have a chance to take part in WORCA events this year, being aware of how awesome this association is and what an impact it has had on your ability to enjoy mountain bike trails in Whistler is super. Consider taking a minute to learn more about this incredible, volunteer organization.
We hope to see you out on the trails during your stay in Whistler & if you stay with us, we can't wait to see the videos you took while using our GoPro's. Honestly, we never get tired of hearing your about your biking adventures. The smiles you bring back to us alone are worth it!
“At the Aava, I felt genuinely welcomed as a rider.”
Guests who stay with us with their mountain bikes are regularly surprised at how much we not only tolerate mountain bikes — we love them. Give us a call and ask us about mountain biking. You might be surprised at the reception you get.
