2015 Showcase Showdown - Whistler

Showcase Showdown

Canada's oldest snowboard competition makes its triumphant return when the Showcase Showdown hits town Saturday, March 14th. The event is a local’s favorite and is open to both professional and amateur riders. This year’s event is being held as a 'big air' contest. This allows riders to dig deep into their bag of tricks and bust their best moves over a massive table top jump.

There are four different entry categories including, Pro Male, Pro Female, 16-18 amateur and 19+ amateur. Cash and prizes will be awarded to the top riders in each category. There are $10,000 big ones up for first place in men's pro and $2500 up for first in women's pro.

The amateur competitions and pro qualifiers will be held from 1 PM to 4 PM at the base of Whistler Mountain. Then at 4 PM thousands will gather in Skiers Plaza to watch the men and women's pro final. Along with the cash, the top-ranking men's pro will be awarded a spot in the invite only Shred Show event happening over World Ski & Snowboard week.

New to this year's event is the Junior Rail Jam for kids. The event is open to kids aged 7-14 and gives young riders the chance to compete in a fun judged competition. Competitors will have the chance to hit a specially designed rail in a jam style format. Entry into the Rail Jam is free. The contest takes place from 10 AM – 10:45 AM. Get there early if you want to sign up and make sure to have a legal guardian in order to sign a waiver.

If you’re looking to sign up for one of the four ‘big air’ categories you can do so in person at any of the Whistler Blackcomb Guest Relations offices. Entry can also be done online following this link.

Make sure to check out the Showcase Showdown this March 14th at Skiers Plaza (Base of Whistler Mountain). The contest runs from 1 PM – 5 PM with the finals kicking off at 4 PM.
