GoFest

Back by popular demand the Whistler Great Outdoor Festival (GO Fest) returns this Victoria weekend May 15-18. The festival marks the transition period between Whistler's snow season & summer season. The event is highlighted by a number of sporting events, races, celebrations, free concerts, demo's and more.

Making a return to this year's event is the ultra popular Great Snow-Earth-Water Race. This race was originally held during the early years of Whistler Mountain's inception and has a deep history in the mountain community. During the event, competitors compete in teams of 6 to 8 people and must complete a 6 stage relay. The relay includes a ski/snowboard touring leg, downhill skiing/snowboarding, downhill mountain biking, running, canoeing through the River of Golden Dreams, and finishes in a cross-country mountain bike race. And there’s more competitive action beyond the finish line.

Mountain bikers may also want to try their hand at the GO Enduro. The event features four timed stages within the Whistler Mountain Bike Park and is open to amateurs and pros alike. If kayaking is your thing then why not check out the Great Cheakamus River Extreme Kayaking Race, race down the Cheakamus River in a heat style contest, win your heat and advance to the next stage. One of the more popular events last year had to be the DiscGo Disc Golf Tournament. This year's event has been changed to a two-day tournament format and features 11 entry categories for all levels of players.

Go Fest will also include a number of popular outdoor recreation clinics and arts attractions. Events include stand-up paddle boarding and running clinics, fly fishing and sailing. The Slush Cup will also return with high hopes the wild costumes will generate enough cheers to fuel participants through a surf across the ice cold slush pit.

Capping off each night you can catch a FREE concert at the GOFest Concert Series. All concerts will take place at Whistler Village Square. Musicians on tap for the weekend include April Wine, Current Swell, Dustin Bentall & Kendal Carson, Bentall, Byrnes and Mann, Will Ross Band, Dakota Pearl and Willa.
