Crankworx Whistler's Final Weekend
We’ve already seen a week of the action-packed 2016 Crankworx Whistler and we still have 4 more days of events! Lots of big wins and upsets have occurred on the mountain this week. And the village has come alive with bikers and fans coming out everyday to watch and participate in the events.
The final weekend of Crankworx Whistler is here and it’s going out with a bang with events such as; the Red Bull Joyride, the Canadian Open Downhill, and the Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival. Here are some of the schedule highlights that you’ll want to see before it’s over.
The last leg of the Canadian Cup Cycling Series, the Canadian Open XC, will be ending its season at Crankworx Whistler this year. Competitors will go through a fast and challenging cross-country circuit, racing for points to see who will be crowned the Canada Cup Cycling Series Champion at the conclusion of the event.
Rivalry is the name of the game in the Giant sponsored Dual Slalom. This crowd-pleasing format pits two competitors against one another in a side-by-side battle against each other and the clock to avoid elimination. Riders take one run down each side of the course, with the fastest combined time taking the win. This is sure to draw a crowd in the village and we highly recommend seeing this one!
The Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival is back on Saturday! This is one high stakes race with first place getting not only the cheese but two Whistler Blackcomb ski season passes. There’s plenty in store for everyone, including live music, tastings, cooking seminars, costume contests, terrible jokes, and a market featuring some of the best cheeses in Canada.
The Canadian Open DH presented by iXS course is open to both the Elite and Junior Expert UCI licensed and unlicensed riders. The race is one straight down run of Whistler’s gnarly single-track, this technical test will call for all out speed and laser focus from the riders. One of Crankworx last events, this is sure to bring out the crowds.
The last day of Crankworx! It all feels like such a blur, literally and figuratively, the 10 days of festivities is almost over. But not without one last event, the Red Bull Joyride at the Boneyard in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park from 10:30am - 1:30pm. Fusing elements of dirt jumping and North Shore-style mountain biking, this Crankworx Whistler Slopestyle event is where it all began – both for Crankworx and for the style of riding.
This is gunna be a fun weekend folks be sure to come out a cheer on the competitors! We would also like to say congratulations to all the participants and supporters that came out this year. You’re all winners in our books!
