Whistler WSSF 2017 Free Concerts Line Up

WSSF 2017 -1

The World Ski & Snowboard Festival is back in Whistler this April 7th. A staple of Whistler’s spring events, WSSF has been delivering a rockin’ good time to visitors and locals for years now.

Each year the festival has grown and gotten more dynamic in it’s offerings – and this year is going to be no different. From live music, and art exhibitions, to comedy shows, and DogFest – Whistler Ski and Snowboard Festival is non-stop fun for the whole family.

From Friday, April 7 to Sunday, April 16, Whistler will be buzzing with people attending the festival. The best part of WSSF is you're basically attending once you step foot in Whistler Village. There’s so much free activities going on everyday throughout the Village Stroll it’s hard to tell where or when the festival ends.

WSSF 2017 -2

One of the festival’s biggest highlights every year is the FIDO Free Outdoor Concert Series. There’s nothing better than enjoying world-class musicians with your friends and family in the beautiful setting of Whistler Village, for free! Once again, WSSF has come up with a great concert line-up spanning across a variety of genres to keep us all entertained.

Everyday of the festival from 2:30pm to 5:30 (unless otherwise stated on the schedule) live music will be playing at the Main Stage, located in Skier’s Plaza, by the Excalibur Gondola.

This year is full of amazing musical acts that are going to hit the Main Stage in Whistler and we’re here to give you a run down of the newly released FIDO Free Outdoor Concert Series lineup.

FIDO Free Outdoor Concert Series

Friday, April 7th – Virginia to Vegas

Kicking the festival off on Friday is the Ontario-raised singer, Virginia to Vegas. He’s most well-known for his debut platinum single “We Are Stars” but has quite a library of songs that are perfect for a spring afternoon dance session. This is a great way to start off WSSF!

Saturday, April 8th – Walk Off The Earth

Walk Off The Earth isn’t your conventional indie, alternative, reggae, ska, folk, rock band you’ve all seen before. These Canadian guys, and gal, are known for their low-budget videos of original and covered music, where they play anything but a traditional guitar in probably the least reasonable way of doing it but somehow it always creates magic. Walk Off The Earth is probably one show you won’t want to miss. Set a reminder right now – Saturday, April 8th 2:30PM!!

Sunday, April 9th – Busty and The Bass

Busty and The Bass are a great example of the range of genres that WSSF 2017 is offering patrons. This nine-piece collective of musicians from across North America who met studying music at McGill University, in Montreal. The best way to describe ‘Busty' would be a tight electro-funk band and one of Canada's most vibrant and exciting new bands.

Monday, April 10th – Northern Ignition

On Monday, Northern Ignition will be gracing the main stage. This local Sea-to-Sky Corridor band was last year’s winner of ‘Be The Best, Play The Fest’ where they won the opportunity to play in the now massively popular, Pemberton Festival. Come watch their show and find out why they won and just keep on getting better.

Tuesday, April 11th – Brother Twang

Another Sea-to-Sky regular and PemFest gig winner, Brother Twang, will play on April 11th. This band has been called by some as the quintessential Whistler band . You probably won’t wanna miss seeing this gathering of locals and old ski bums in the Village.

Wednesday, April 12th – Chris Buck Band

A little bit country, a little bit rock n’ roll, and a little bit club music. That’s probably the best way to describe the Chris Buck Band. This country band was formed in Vancouver and has toured North America with multiple songs becoming top-40 hits!

Thursday, April 13th – Swollen Members

Starting the weekend off early on Thursday is Swollen Members. These Canadian hip-hop artists have been playing shows in Whistler starting back to when they began over a decade ago. These guys always draw a crowd when they start to perform so this may not be the show to bring your toddler to.

Friday, April 14th  – Keys N Krates

Understandably, WSSF has scheduled Keys N Krates to play on Friday. This electronic dance music duo has garnered quite the following after consistently releasing quality songs accompanied by visually captivating music videos. Not one’s for EDM’s typical visual barrage, their videos usually tell a story unrelated but fitting to the music. This is a great way to get the blood back to your toes after a long day on the mountain.

Saturday, April 15th – Busta Rhymes

Busta Rhymes is in the building.. or outside a building and on a stage, either way, the energetic hip-hop legend is bringing his show up to Canada for a FREE show! This may be the musical highlight of the festival, with people already planning trips for a chance to watch Busta Rhymes bust some rhymes after their ski day. You’ll probably want to set a reminder for this guy too – Saturday, April 15th.

Sunday, April 16th – Ozomatli

Last but definitely not least, the six-piece latin hip-hop group, Ozomatli. The relaxing and rhythmic latin sounds are exactly what everyone will need after a full week of skiing, partying, doing activities, and going events. Come close out the FIDO Free Outdoor Concert Series with us!

The lineup this year is so great we might just have to set up camp in the Skier’s Plaza so we won’t miss anything – but you don’t have to. Just book your stay at Aava and enjoy the experience of being steps away from the mountain and the World Ski & Snowboard Festival 2017.
