Whistler GranFondo Returns to the Sea to Sky Corridor

RBC GranFondo Whistler

The GranFondo returns to the Sea to Sky Corridor this September 9th, 2017. In it’s 8th appearance in the Corridor, this breathtaking trip takes to you on a 122 km bike ride from Vancouver to Whistler. Experience the incredible views as you make your way North, up the Sea to Sky Highway.

The RBC GranFondo takes you past the beautiful Howe Sound into the Coast Mountains where you’ll finish your 122 km trek. Whether you’re an advanced, elite, or recreational cyclist, you can participate at your own pace and still receive cheers as you pass the finish line in Whistler. After the race, riders are invited to join in on the big post-race celebration, featuring live music at Whistler’s Olympic Plaza, and more. Not up for the full ride? No worries, come out and celebrate with the athletes and watch the Awards Ceremony or bring the kids to play at iRide Jam. Kids can participate in small clinics aimed at building cycling skills and enjoyment for the sport.

Whistler GranFondo RBC

Not exactly sure what a ‘gran fondo’ is yet? Well, loosely translated from Italian it means “big ride”. This obviously comes from its massive length, at over 100 km, but gran fondo’s are also known for their inclusivity of skill levels and amount of cyclists that participate. Over 7,000 people join in the epic ride from Vancouver to Whistler in September. Growing in popularity in Europe for decades, gran fondo’s have gained momentum in North America more recently. While a gran fondo is not a race, top finishers get recognition and riders are judged on course challenges, such as; long distances, steep climbs, and combinations of the two.

Participants will start the RBC GranFondo in downtown Vancouver at Stanley Park, with all categories finishing in Whistler, except for Medio participants which will end their 67 km ride in Squamish. Take advantage of this amazing opportunity to ride one of the most visually stunning routes in the world on a bike. It’s not often highways shutdown entire lanes for an experience like this.
